C.A.R.E Grants winners 2019-2020

The CARE (Competition Attracting Research Excellence) Program aims to help St. Mary’s Hospital Centre staff members who are interested in research gain valuable experience in designing and leading a research project that is attuned to the needs and priorities of the Hospital. Through CARE, the hospital foundation and research centre support projects that contribute towards the development of clinical and health services research capacity and use research methods to improve the quality of health services delivered to patients and families at St Mary’s Hospital Centre.

Two research teams led by junior investigators have recently received funding to launch their projects in 2020:

Do Antibiotics Shorten the Duration or Severity of Delirium in Elderly Inpatients with Asymptomatic Pyuria? Feasibility of a Pragmatic Randomized-Controlled Trial

Junior PI: Dr. Trong Tien Nguyen,  Assistant Professor, McGill University; Physician, Department of Specialized Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, CIUSSS-ODIM

Senior PI: Dr. Jane McCusker,  Principal Scientist, St. Mary’s Research Centre;  Professor Emerita, Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health

Reducing blood testing overuse on the medical inpatient unit at St-Mary’s Hospital

Junior PI: Laura Pilozzi-Edmonds, Attending Nephrologist, St. Mary’s Hospital Centre, Assistant Professor, McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology – R-6307
