Walk to Raise Awareness & Funds for Women-Related Cancers
We are very excited to be uniting this fall at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium to celebrate the 29th edition of St. Mary’s Girls for the Cure! This year, more than 1,000 girls will unite with a common purpose – to support women living with cancer.
Since the first steps in 1994, tens of thousands of girls from Montréal secondary schools have taken part in Girls for the Cure. With over $3.5 million dollars raised, St. Mary’s GFC has directly impacted awareness, research, treatment and survival rates for women fighting cancer. As the McGill University Chair in Community Cancer Care is housed at St. Mary’s, we will continue investing in and framing the future. With each step taken, hope grows in each and every one of us.
Students from Bialik High School, Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School (ECS), Lower Canada College (LCC), Sacred Heart School of Montréal, The Study & Trafalgar School for Girls and are ALL taking part… and you can support them in their journey!
In the weeks and days leading up to the event, students work hard to collect pledges from family and friends to participate in a 5 km walk. Their journey begins from their respective school campuses and leads them through our city landmark, Mount Royal, to the Stadium. They will gather on the field in an empowering celebration, knowing all of the money they raise is dedicated to cancer treatments and services at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre.
The afternoon includes a heartfelt message of gratitude from our testimonial speaker, participation by Bell media radio and television personalities, DJ Fafa Kahn will pump up the crowd, singer/songwriter VËR will be returning with her beautiful voice, a fun fitness party with KAT and of course plenty of encouragement from the school mascots!
