Step Up for Women’s Cancers

With buoyant energy and dedication to the cause, Girls for the Cure made its Murray Hill Park debut on Thursday September 25th, 2025 for the 31st edition of the flagship event. The combined efforts of this year’s participants raised a remarkable $207,769 NET to support cancer treatments and services at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre – and donations are still coming in.

Over 1,200 girls worked diligently in the weeks leading up to the walk, raising funds from family, friends, and community supporters to complete a trek of approximately 5 km, starting from their respective schools and ending at Murray Hill Park in Westmount. Despite a steady drizzle throughout the day, the event proceeded as planned, bringing together students from Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School (ECS), Lower Canada College (LCC), Sacred Heart School of Montreal, The Study, Trafalgar School for Girls, and Loyola High School for a day where celebration and hope converged in the effort to cure cancer.

As they arrived at the park, the students cheered and Virgin Radio’s Shannon King greeted each school with shout-outs of fist-pumping enthusiasm. She was joined on stage by dancers from the Sonia Balazovjech Dance Company and DJ Menous, who kept the crowd dancing and energized throughout the afternoon.

CTV News and CityNews Montreal’s Adriana Gentile interviewed students from each participating school, along with Nadia Wendowsky, President and CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation. A breast cancer survivor and former Girls for the Cure participant herself, Wendowsky later took the stage to deliver a moving testimonial that underscored the importance of compassionate care and the power of community action – a true “full circle” moment. Other speakers included Girls for the Cure co-founder Susan Hart, who celebrated the movement’s enduring success over three decades after its founding, and nutritionist Amanda Prizant, who spoke about the importance of nutrition for women’s lifelong health.

A hush fell over the stadium as the crowd observed a moment of silence in honour of those women who have gone before us, those who are currently on their cancer journey and those who have healed.

The dancers delivered a poignant performance set to Rachel Platten’s “Girls“, followed by an energetic dance class that brought the entire crowd to their feet with a mashup of Katy Perry’s “Roar” and Imagine Dragons’ “Thunder”.

Massive cheers erupted as St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation staff took to the stage to reveal the giant cheque with this year’s results!

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible community… to all the dedicated teachers for their enthusiasm and to Andrew Maislin and his team at the City of Westmount. A huge shout out to our supporters, Virgin Radio Montreal, Bell Media, iHeartRadio, CHOM 97 7, DJ Menous, Sonia Balazovjech Dance Company, CJAD 800, TSN 690, CTV News Montreal, CityNews Montreal, Bernie Beigne, Jack & Jill Montreal… and of course, the Foundation’s mascot, Buddy!

Congratulations to all the students for your passion and dedication, which helped raise over $4.3 million over the years in support of awareness, research, treatment, and better survival rates for women living with cancer.

We look forward to seeing you on September 24, 2026 for the 32nd edition of Girls for the Cure!
