2018 St. Mary’s Masters Update

The 2018 St. Mary’s Masters raises over $300,820 for Cancer Care at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre!

Not a cloud in the sky on Monday June 11, 2018 as more than 200 golfers came out to play in picture-perfect weather in the 26th edition of the coveted St. Mary’s Masters at The Royal Montréal Golf Club.  Under the skilled leadership of Chairman Curtis Millen and Honorary Chairman Murray Steinberg, our dedicated committee worked diligently to ensure an exceptional, fun-filled day for all participants and raised an impressive $300,820 NET.

Our guests were delightfully surprised when they were greeted by Montréal Canadiens young guns Charles Hudon #54 and Nikita Scherbak #38 who graciously posed for photos and signed autographs. Legendary old-timer and Habs Ambassador Guy Lafleur joined us for cocktails and regaled guests with superb stories of his time as the incomparable #10. The golfers were welcomed by our fabulous volunteers, organized by Volunteer Chairperson Muriel Longlade, and treated to a superb brunch in the dining room which offered a sprawling abundance of fresh fruit, salads, eggs of every style, sausages, home fries and more!

Bagpiper Grégoire Jarry dressed in full McGill University tartan, piped the golfers as they headed out in their carts to await the boom of the opening shot gun. Activities on the course included a straightest drive competition, closest to the pin and a revamped putting contest crafted by the Club’s head pro, along with TWO hole-in-one opportunities to win a new Mini Cooper Countryman from Groupe Park Avenue. There was a steady flow of traffic throughout the day lining up for delicious smoked meat sandwiches and not-to-be-missed tomato pizza and meatball sandwiches from Del Monaco – with snack stations in between keeping everyone happy!

The evening festivities kicked off with a cocktail while guests perused the impressive Silent Auction and enthusiastically entered their bids online. Bidding heated up over coveted hockey tickets, dining experiences, trips, fine wines and sports memorabilia. As guests enjoyed a delicious parmesan and herb crusted beef tenderloin expertly catered by Royal Montréal, volunteers (including St. Mary’s Hospital nurses) circulated the dining room selling raffle tickets. Chairman Curtis Millen expressed his sincere gratitude for the steadfast support from the community and the countless patients and families who will benefit from their support.

On behalf of the St. Mary’s Masters Golf Committee, Foundation Board Members and staff, we wish to extend our sincere appreciation to all the participants, donors, event partners and volunteers for their generous support.  This year’s proceeds will be directed toward the much needed renovation of our 5th floor which is home to our cancer in-patient and palliative care rooms. Your dedication to this initiative does not go unnoticed and is something for which we are forever grateful.

Congratulations to all and we look forward to welcoming you again next year.
