2017 St. Mary's Masters raises $415,700!

The 2017 St. Mary’s Masters celebrates 25 years by raising over $415,875 for
St. Mary’s Hospital Center!

More than 240 golfers took to the links in glorious sunshine on June 12, 2017 to celebrate more than the weather at a true showing of Community at the 25th Anniversary of the St. Mary’s Masters at The Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Under the skilled Chairmanship of Curtis Millen, our steadfast long-time committee members and volunteers, dedicated their utmost to ensure an outstanding day at the sold-out event and raised an unprecedented $415,875 NET to benefit our Hospital.

A true gentleman and fan favourite from past tournaments - Montreal Canadiens Ambassador Guy Lafleur #10 happily shook hands, posed for photographs and mingled well past the dinner hour.

Activities on the course included a straightest drive competition, closet to the pin and putting contests along with TWO hole-in-one opportunities to drive home in a brand new Mini Cooper from Groupe Park Avenue.

As evening fell, golfers and guests gathered for cocktails to celebrate community and honour the longevity of the tournament and the countless patients and families who have benefitted from its support.

SMHF President and CEO, Cynda Heward, was extremely proud to surprise the roster of Past Chairs with custom made “Masters” green jackets in appreciation for their continued investment in the St. Mary’s Community.

While guests enjoyed a delicious filet mignon expertly catered by Royal Montreal, volunteers (including SMH Oncology nurses) circulated the dining room selling raffle tickets. Chairman Curtis Millen expressed his sincere gratitude for the steadfast support from the numerous participants who have been returning year after year.

Silent auction bidding heated up over a luxurious private jet get-away experience and the opportunity to attend The Masters at the Augusta National Golf Club, home of the original Masters.

While this year’s proceeds will be directed toward the much needed renovation of our 5th floor which is home to our cancer in-patient and palliative care rooms, we are also pleased to have successfully launched our Legacy Foursome initiative in honour of the St. Mary’s Masters 25th anniversary. This impactful initiative sponsors a state-of-the-art Treatment Station for our cancer patients who pay 15 thousand visits to our clinic annually.

On behalf of the St. Mary’s Masters Golf Committee, Foundation Board Members and staff, we wish to extend our sincere appreciation to all the participants, donors, sponsors and volunteers for their generous support.

Congratulations to all and we look forward to welcoming you again next year!
